On-Going Training

Tier 1: Defense vs. Unarmed Attackers

Prerequisites:    PROACT Intensive
Training Time:   48 hours
4 Levels, 12 Hours each

Tier 1 provides a thorough understanding of the principles, strategies and physical skills necessary to control and/or neutralize the majority of violent encounters involving unarmed attackers, including multiple attackers. The four modules composing the Tier 1 program also provide the skill and knowledge base that allow for handling more advanced scenarios, such as armed attackers and multiple opponents with weapons.

    • Defensive Tactics: Participants learn the fundamentals of personal security: positioning, mobility, proactive and reactive strategies, indirect vs. direct attacks, physical control skills, and nerve control techniques.
    • Advanced Control Tactics: Building on the Basic Defensive Tactics course, this course teaches advanced maneuvers necessary for eventually handling multiple opponents. Advanced joint controls and strategies are developed in this comprehensive and exciting course.
    • Offensive Tactics: This course advances participants' capabilities by teaching the fundamentals of offensive action including: Gaining and maintaining the initiative; skill sets such as punches, elbow strikes and trapping, fully integrated with the Defensive Tactics program, participants become versatile and well rounded
    • Multiple Opponents: This course in many ways represents a highly advanced skill level, and in itself is a culmination of all the skills developed throughout the first tier of instruction. An understanding of your own advantages and your opponents’ disadvantages, combined with techniques honed throughout the previous courses, and overlaid with the Multiple Opponent strategy provide realistic alternatives in these critical, yet common situations.

Tier 2: Defense vs. Armed Attackers

Prerequisites:    Tier 1
Training Time:   48 hours
4 Levels, 12 Hours each

Tier 2 training builds on the foundation skills and strategies developed in Tier 1, and progresses skill building through more advanced, yet all too common scenarios involving weapon wielding assailants. Through learning the dynamics, advantages, disadvantages and predictable patterns involving weapons, the Tier 2 training (utilizing the following four modules) systematically makes weapon disarming not only realistic, but practical…even when dealing with multiple armed assailants.

  1. Impact Weapon Defense: This module introduces the fundamentals of all weapon defense. Utilizing techniques gained during Tier 1 instruction, participants learn to engage, disarm, and neutralize an attacker wielding an impact weapon such as a club, bat, tire iron, or brick.
  2. Edged Weapon Defense: The properties of edged weapons are significantly different than impact weapons and require specialized strategies and systems. Participants will learn how to avoid, disarm, and neutralize an attacker with a knife or other edged weapon.
  3. Gun Disarming: Participants of this course will be able to realistically and effectively disarm an attacker wielding a firearm, from hand guns to long guns such as rifles or shotguns.
  4. Multiple Opponents with Weapons: The culmination of the first two tiers of instruction, this course fully reviews and tests all skill sets through advanced problem solving and simulation of this uncomfortably common scenario.

Tier 3: Fundamentals of Ground Fighting

Prerequisites:    Tier 1 & 2
Training Time:   48 hours
4 Levels, 12 Hours each

The purpose of Tier 3 is to simplify and make user-friendly, what could otherwise be an incredibly complex and long term course of study in handling a ground fighting situation.  The realities of the street, i.e. multiple opponents and weapons, necessitate a very specific and prioritized approach to managing this facet of defense, mainly avoiding it if possible, but if not, finishing the situation and getting back to your feet quickly.  Participants will learn the fundamentals of take-down prevention, positional dominance, striking from the ground, utilization of the environment, joint manipulations and incapacitation techniques, chokes and restraints, as well as the defense against such.

  1. Fundamentals of Ground Fighting 1: The first module in Tier 4 focuses on developing a basic working knowledge of ground agility, mobility and use of leverage, takedown prevention, positioning, and basic finishing holds and escapes.
  2. Fundamentals of Ground Fighting 2: This module continues to develop fundamental ground fighting skills building intermediate finishing holds and preventions, striking from the ground, and integrating strikes with finishes and escapes.
  3. Fundamentals of Ground Fighting 3: Participants continue development of ground fighting skills, learning more advanced finishing holds, escapes and incapacitation techniques and beginning the development of offensive ground fighting methods.  Takedowns and throws will be addressed along with throw counters and reversals.
  4. Fundamentals of Ground Fighting 4: Advanced applications will be developed as well as advanced integrations of strikes and finishes.  Participants will also culminate the Tier by applying techniques developed over the previous 3 levels in a series of practical application exercises.

Tier 4: Offensive & Improvised Weapon Usage

Prerequisites:    Tier 1 & 2
Offensive Weapon Usage is restricted course material—Participation is dependent on approval by INPAX® staff
Training Time:    48 hours
4 Levels, 12 Hours each

It is easier and safer to handle an armed assailant with a defensive tool of your own.  This battery of courses teaches the fundamental skills and strategies to utilize weapons for defense.  Impact, edged and improvised weapon usage is taught versus an armed assailant or multiple attackers.  This knowledge greatly increases participant’s capabilities and overall security.

  1. Offensive Impact Weapon 1: This module introduces participants to the fundamentals of offensive weapon usage.  The basis for all weapon usage, participants learn to utilize a common stick as a devastating defensive tool.  Skills are rapidly built as the bio-mechanical foundation has already been built through Tier 1 and Tier 2.  Participants focus on weapon vs. weapon tactics, emphasizing distance control, long range striking and disarming techniques.
  2. Offensive Impact Weapon 2: Participants build on knowledge developed in the previous course progressing to more advanced weapon maneuvers, strikes and disarms vs. an armed attacker.  Participants will also learn to integrate existing skills sets such as hand strikes and kicks into their weapon fighting skill sets.
  3. Offensive Edged Weapon 1:  This course develops advanced skills in the usage of an edged weapon as a defensive tool.  Edged weapons such as pocket knives are common, legal and very easily carried, and provide an incredible advantage to the skilled user.  Participants will learn how to utilize the knife against an armed attacker or multiple assailants.
  4. Improvised Weapons:  This unique course teaches participants how to recognize, select and utilize common everyday items as either impact or edged weapons.  Items such as a magazine or newspaper, cell phone, pen or pencil, etc. can all be utilized effectively against an armed or unarmed attacker.  Never be unarmed again.

Tier 5: Close Quarter Combatives & 3rd Party Protection

Prerequisites:    Tier 1 & 2
Training Time:    48 hours
4 Levels, 12 Hours each

Tier 5 develops advanced combative skills as well as the principles, systems and skills necessary to engage a situation when you are not the target, a real necessity for families in today’s world.

Beginning with advanced strikes, advanced kicks, trapping and combative skills, participants hone existing skills to a keen edge, and further develop advanced new abilities & strategies that build off Tier 1 & Tier 2 protocols.  Special emphasis is placed on dynamic power generation, footwork and combative timing, close quarter tactics, gaining and maintaining initiative and counter-striking.

In 3rd Party Protection situations, the standard protocols of Tier 1-4 must change.  When you are no longer the focal point of the situation, control becomes more challenging to exert.  Modifications to existing techniques and special protocols are required. The same principles that apply to an executive protection or body-guarding situation are applied in a practical and user-friendly way for participants, especially useful for families.

  1. Close Quarter Combatives: This module emphasizes the advantages, disadvantages and objectives of extreme close quarter fighting where normal mobility and tactics are compromised.  High level punching and elbow strikes are developed, emphasizing advanced footwork, timing, direct and indirect attacks and close quarter defensive skills including, “intercepting” and “counter-offensive” tactics
  2. Close Quarter Combatives 2: This module builds off the skills developed in CQC-1, developing specialty kicks and strikes not introduced in Tiers 1 or 2, thus providing a broader knowledge base and rounding of skills allowing participants to better match the right tool for the job, as well as more advanced Joint manipulations and control tactics.  Controlling another person without causing extreme injury and without him/her causing injury to him/herself is extremely difficult.  Proven techniques and applications are developed in this module which allow for the effective control of an assailant, above and beyond skills taught in Tiers 1 & 2.
  3. Fundamentals of 3rd Party Protection: This module teaches the principles, systems and skills necessary to engage a situation when you are not the target, as well as how to assess when action is appropriate.  Most skill sets are modifications to abilities built in Tiers 1-4, which allow for rapid development and implementation of 3rd party techniques throughout the full spectrum of scenarios: single opponent, armed opponents, or multiple opponents.  A framework of priorities, objectives, techniques and strategies are developed through simulation and live exercises.
  4. The Family Protection Detail (Mom-Dad-Kids):  This module follows up on the skills and strategies developed in the Fundamentals of 3rd Party Protection course.  Defining and training families to operate as a unit in a crisis situation is essential.  Each family member should understand what their role and objective is during a security situation, as well as the “cues” given by family members to alert them that a situation is possible or imminent.  In this course, parents will learn the physical, non-verbal, and verbal skills necessary to keep children and themselves safe, in an organized and pre-planned manner throughout a range of scenarios.  Fun and exciting, this course truly brings families together.
